I am a college student looking for a laptop with good wireless internet connection and a decent battery life. I would mainly use the laptop for Internet and Word documents. I want a reasonable price and don’t really need that many bells and whistles.

There is really no BEST laptop brand from ANY company as these manufacturers all have produced “Gold” and “Lemons” in their time.
but it’s an older model (2002) on the way out soon (to be replaced by a still unknown brand as I will be doing research).
Most answers will tell you to buy “THIS” or “THAT” brand because it is the best, just remember that it is the best for THEM not for you.
Most people will tell you of a best “brand” but their actual answer is based on the MODEL they have not the entire brand and you should not judge a company by ONE model as they make hundreds of them.
This being said, here is how to do more precise research to find the best one for YOU:
The first step is to get information on the laptops that you are interested in and, as a second step, to search online at web stores (like Amazon or similar) or at retail shops (BestBuy, staples or similar) for the best deals on the ones you would really like to have based on your search.
This way, you get the best working laptops at the best prices.
As laptop specs change often, it is good to get non-vendor/non-partisan/non-groupie information so you should do some checking on these review/guide sites to help fine tune your search.
At each site, start by checking models and then compare them with others (or against each other) by choosing different options using boxes and drop down menus to customize the search and get what you want in your laptop ( there is even a way on some of those sites to look by inputting the price you are willing to pay to minimize the impact on your wallet ).
Your time will not be wasted (after all, you get all this from the comfort of your home) and you should find something to your liking and budget.

It is known as a netbook
And it will be your new best friend
These little ultraportable notebooks are small about 10 in, but are erfect for class because they will not take up that much desk space. they don’t have a lot of bells and wistles, but they do have features like full wireless connectivity, webcam, and are super light, about 2 lbs and This particular model comes with windows XP, and you can install 2Gb of ram for $20. there are videos online, youtube mainly that will show oyu step by step instructions on how to do this. not that you couldn’t figure it out, it is as asimple as unsrewing two screws.
The battery lif eis osmehting like 9. 5 hours on one charge, plus they are really cool.
Hope this helps, I am a student in Sacramento and this hting has become an extension of who I am.

You might consider a netbook.
They are small 10-inch computers, ideal for mobile users like colleague students. They have wireless and around 7 hours of battery life in normal usage mode. No kidding.
One of the best netbooks at this time is the Asus Eee PC 1000HE.

I have a Dell Inspirion 1525 and LOVE it. Bought it at Best Buy and couldn’t pass it up. It was on sale for $450. Such a good price, I bought 2! It has wireless internet and printer. I have never had a problem. It has everything I need. On the dell recommended power plan with the dim setting, the battery will last almost 5 hours. Maybe not the longest battery life, but enough for me. Hope this helps.

I got a laptop from zipzoomfly. com It’s called an MSI wind. It’s not a very big display (7″), but it’s super light and portable for taking back and forth to school. It only cost me about 300 bucks with shipping too. I HIGHLY recommend it! Good luck
